Restorative and victim-centred approach to mitigate hate and (violent) extremism

The VicTory project ”Restorative and victim-centred approach to mitigate hate and (violent) extremism” recognises the polarisation mushrooming trend in European societies, leading to an increasing number of hate-motivated incidents, and as a consequence, of extremism.

However, and as a result of the increasing polarisation, and normalisation of hate, those impacted by it struggle to come forward and get the needed reparation, which is why the EU has recognised how victims should be empowered and have their rights enhanced and validated.

What is the VicTory project

A European initiative gathering 8 partners from 5 countries, aiming to build and establish a victim-centred approach to the support and guidance of victims of hate and (violent) extremism-related incidents.

The project is mobilising a holistic approach to foster effective and coherent implementation of legislation and practices that protect victims’ rights, capacitating professionals working with victims, both from governmental and non-governmental institutions, through sustainable, tailor-made, and needs-oriented solutions.

Three main Objectives:

      • Build a victim-centred approach: to the support of victims of hate crimes and (violent) extremism-related incidents;

      • Enhance the capacities, intervention support, and cooperation of key practitioners: (i.e. criminal justice professionals, victims support workers, and case managers) when working with victims of hate crimes and (violent) extremism-related incidents;

      • Improve the effective and coherent application of legislation and good practices: such as restorative-led, to uphold victims’ rights, mitigating secondary victimisation.
